The Mercato nel Campo returns to Siena, an event full of charm that showcases the best local food and wine and craft products. The setting is suggestive because the products are offered as happened in the markets in the Middle Ages, so even the spaces are assigned according to the arrangement rules that respect the types of products as happened then. In 14th century Siena it took place once a week and welcomed hundreds of sellers, but the real “queen” of the market was the treccola, or the seller of greens, greens, legumes, milk, eggs and cheese. The butchers offered their butchered meats and game; the pizzicatoli, sold cured meats and spices, and many farmers, who brought products from the garden and seasonal harvests. Among the artisans are leather workers, shoemakers, fabric sellers, cup makers, basket makers and barrel makers, sellers of barrels and barrels. Today to the historical figures are added pastry chefs, producers of wine, honey, saffron, goldsmiths and bookbinders faithfully grouped in the shell of Piazza. And also stands with the inevitable decorations for the Nativity scene and Christmas decorations.
